Climate Change
Living roofs help improve resilience to future climate impacts. They are a mechanism for reducing the negative effects of climate change and greatly improving a city’s sustainability.
Estimates suggest that the adoption of living roof technology throughout the capital could result in a reduction of thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The use of vegetation on a roof surface ameliorates the negative thermal effects of conventional roofing surfaces through the cooling effect of evapo-transpiration. It can also provide benefit in the form of insulation, and therefore a reduction in energy use and CO2 emissions.
