Green Roofs
The terms used to describe green roofs are many and varied including: Sky Gardens, green roofs, sedum roofs, grass roofs and living roofs, but the structure is the same. Green roofs provide improved biodiversity, are aesthetically pleasing and improve energy efficiency
At Sky Gardens we offer two different types of green roof installation services, one catering for private build green roofs and the other for professional green roof developments.
Intensive Green Roof
An Intensive high maintenance green roof gives the building owner the opportunity to convert a flat and unused roof top into a useful and valuable amenity space. In this type of green roof planters, paving, decking and turf are used to recreate the features found in a ground level garden.
Intensive build up:
- Planting, Paving, Decking, Turf
- Intensive Soil
- Filter Fleece - 2mm
- Geodrain - 30mm x 500 x 500
Depth and wet weight vary
Bio-Diverse Green Roof
A Bio-Diverse Sky-Garden green roof is designed to re-create lost brownfield sites. In the UK we have whole ecosystems reliant on upon unused urban sites. Bio-diverse green roofs are an effective method to encourage natural flora and fauna back to our urban areas.
Bio-Diverse build up:
- Wildflower, Aggregate
- Bio-Diverse soil mix
- Filter Fleece - 2mm
- Biodrain - 40mm x 1m x 1m
Depth and wet weight vary
Extensive Green Roof
The purpose of an extensive green roof is to replace the footprint of permeable land that is used by the building. Apart from infrequent maintenance work an extensive Sky-Garden green roof is not designed to bear foot traffic.
Extensive Build up:
- Sedum Blanket - 40mm x 1m x 1m
- Sedum Substrate - 40mm
- Filter Fleece - 2mm
- Biodrain - 40mm x 1m x 1m
Depth 120mm; wet weight 110kgs/m2
Pitched roofs over 20º - build up as above + Sedum Roof Cell: Cells prevent slippage of growing medium. Depth 120mm; wet weight 120kgs/m2
These are the essential components of our Sky-Garden green roof systems that meet the basic requirements of vegetation establishment. Our knowledge in developing bio-diversity within the urban landscape ensures your project is unique and is created to fulfill all client specifications.
