Energy Researchers Looking for Green Roof Partners
Sep 13 2009
A transition to a low carbon economy, whilst ensuring a secure energy supply is one of the greatest challenges facing the UK today. Recognising this grand challenge, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has awarded £7M to the University of Sheffield to establish E-Futures, a Doctoral Training Centre for energy research.
Starting in September 2009, five annual intakes of 20 students will embark on a 4 year PhD, with the first year designed to underpin students’ knowledge of Energy related research.
The research component of the course begins in September 2010, although the University expects students to undertake 3 two-month mini-projects in their first year to interest them in different areas of research. The full complement of 20 students has been recruited for this year, several of whom are currently working in industry already.
The University is keen to engage with industrial partners, who can offer exciting and relevant research topics for students to pursue. Examples of projects could include investigating green roof biodiversity issues, public perceptions of green roof, different green roof substrates, and energy savings.
The University has organised an open day for industry on the 2nd October in Sheffield. For more information click here
