Green Roofs - An Integral Part of Plaid Cymru's Environmental Policy

Feb 27 2009

Welsh National Party Plaid Cymru has raised the profile and potential of green roofs in Wales by making them a feature of its policies to improve the environment and public health.

Speaking prior to the local elections in May this year, party leader Ieuan Wyn Jones said he wants not just to manage the councils better than other parties, but to turn them into "laboratories of innovation".

The "innov8 policies," as Plaid Cymru describe them, include encouraging local renewable energy projects, investigating local energy service companies, encouraging underground bins for new homes and business properties and the installation of "intensive green roofs" on all new flat-roofed council properties.
