Sky Garden were delighted to secure the podium works for Wren Living’s head office in Barton-upon-Humber.
The brief was to supply and install a low-maintenance, aesthetically pleasing podium roof garden for the offices overlooking the original grey roof space. The final product looks fantastic.
The podium is comprised of artificial turf and planters constructed of aluminium retention edging. The 38mm turf sits on 6-2mm grit above a 150mm MOT sub base. There was no need for a shock pad as there will be little to no footfall on the roof.
Varying heights of aluminium retention detail created the curved planters meandering across the roof. Root barrier, protection fleece, 25mm drainage board, filter fleece and 225mm deep topsoil make up the planters, with various specimen plants, hedgerows and herbaceous plants and grasses create a peaceful view for the employees of the impressive office space.
Sky Garden installed a temporary irrigation system to help the vegetation establish during the early months, and have agreed a bi-annual maintenance package to sustain and develop the podium garden over the next year.
The client wanted to create a peaceful space, allowing occupants to recharge their batteries during a busy working day. This has been achieved through the installation of various systems by Sky Gardenʼs Podium Landscaping team.
All materials were hoisted to roof level with as little disruption to the occupiers of the building as possible due to lack of crane on site. Despite the projectʼs tight deadlines and location in the centre of the bustling city, the terrace was completed to impeccable standards and will beenjoyed by the occupants of Lombard House for years to come.
Finsbury Park required a wide range of systems for this outdoor space to be used by university students in London. Sky Garden had to use all their experience and expertise to successfully bring the components together to create this beautiful finished project.
Our brief from the client was to unite the classic and modern buildings with an array of hard and soft landscaping finishes designed by UBU Landscape Designers. The landscaping needed to mirror the high spec and quality of the building and meet the stringent planning conditions imposed onto the development.
Surrounding the roof area are a number of hand-crafted timber planters and fencing. High quality wood and our skilled carpenters create the boundaries of this striking space. The planters are fitted with lighting to bring the roof to life in the evenings. Raised wooded seating areas and benches give places for the students to sit back and relax in their new amenity space. Large areas of artificial turf bring colour to the roof, and bring a clean, low-maintenance finish that the students can enjoy all year round.
